He is originally from Winter Haven, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida (UF) on a football scholarship, where he obtained a BS degree in Physical Education. He lettered in wrestling and football and was the Most Valuable Player and co-captain of the 1973 Gator Football Team.
Current interests include triathlons and bicycling. Married and a father of two daughters, he is also a grandfather of four.
