St. Joe Timberland Sale named the “Timberland Deal of the Year” by The Land Report

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – LAKELAND, FL (May 14, 2015) – The editors of The Land Report (www.thelandreport.com), “The Magazine of the American Landowner,” presented their 2014 “Deals of the Year” in the 2015 Spring Edition of the magazine.

For 2014, “Deals of the Year” selected in five categories; the Land Report Deal of the Year, the Agriculture Deal of the Year, the Historic Deal of the Year, the Ranchland Deal of the Year, and the Timberland Deal of the Year.

The Land Report’s ‘Timberland Deal of the Year” was brokered in March 2014 between The St. Joe Company and AgReserves, Inc. The timberland sale in North Florida consisted of more than 380,000 acres and was sold for $562 million. Dean Saunders, ALC, CCIM and Jack Vogel, both of Coldwell Banker Commercial Saunders Real Estate in Lakeland, Florida represented the buyer, AgReserves, Inc. The seller, The St. Joe Company, was represented by TAP Advisors.

The $562 million land purchase was one of Florida’s largest in recent history.

It is reported that this sale in Florida land volume alone represents 2% of Florida land and affects the entire North Florida panhandle region. (http://rt.com/usa/mormon-church-florida-half-billion-459)

It cannot go unnoticed that a sale of this magnitude changes Florida real estate forever and it will always be known as an historical real estate event that shifted the paradigm of landownership in the state.

“This transaction between two of Florida’s largest and most committed land stewards is a meaningful reminder of the economic and ecological value of agriculture in our state,” said Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam. “The acquisition by AgReserves, Inc. of more than 380,000 acres in North Florida from The St. Joe Company reflects a long term investment in the state’s timber and cattle industries.”
