BBQ, Cowboy Beans Favorite Among Guests to the 8th Annual BBQ Event

November 22nd, 2012

Surrounded by the ambiance of a working barn, walls loaded with interesting antique signs, tools, farm implements, and even a mouser kitten, over 300 guests enjoyed a homemade BBQ dinner. Dean Saunders and sales agents personally cook the BBQ meat in a trailer-sized professional BBQ cooker for 24 hours to create the best BBQ found. All side dishes, cowboy beans, potato salad, rolls, and desserts were prepared by the Saunders’ family, wife Gina, daughter Lauren, staff Brigid Quill, and others.

The annual event was started by Coldwell Banker Commercial Saunders Real Estate eight years ago and the last two years, was co-hosted with Coldwell Banker Commercial Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty. The event, held in late October or first of November each year, brings in clients, friends, vendors, and elected officials for what is known as “just a get-together to have fun.”

Attendees kicked back in “The Barn,” of Leland and Wanda Young in Alturas, FL. Music and food were the agenda, along with the special announcement and unveiling of the 8th commissioned painting for 2012.

Mike Nowak-Fine Artist-Commissioned Painting Saunders Real Estate

Michael J. Nowak
Nature and Wildlife Fine Artist
Lakeland, FL

The painting was created by Lakeland nature and wildlife fine artist, Mike J. Nowak and is the 8th commission, but only the second in the “Florida Agricultural Heritage” themed series.

Called “Cattle Pond,” the painting captures a warm, lazy day with grazing cattle on Florida’s natural pastureland landscape. “Capturing the beauty and essence…is the driving force to the soul of my painting and inspiration,” states Nowak.

The Saunders Collection started in 2004 with the first series theme, “Natural Lands of Florida,” portrays scenes of untouched Florida natural lands and “Old Florida” landscapes, all six created by well-known Florida wildlife artist Thomas Brooks.

Starting in 2011, a new series, “Florida Agricultural Heritage” began with the painting of Florida orange groves by fine artist David Escadero of New Mexico.

The subject of the next painting and the selected artist is a closely held secret by those involved. The unveling of both painting and announcement of artist is saved for the annual BBQ event each year. The fine artist is in attendance to visit with attendees and talk about the creative process.
