Two Retail Trends

Gary Ralston, CCIM, SIOR, SRS, CPM, CRE, SCL, a managing partner at SVN Saunders Ralston Dantzler Realty, was recently quoted in the September 2012 issue of FLORIDA REALTOR magazine. Gary is a well-known authority on retail and commercial properties and is often quoted in journals and publications regarding market trends. He is also instructor and adjunct faculty at several educational institutions and organizations.

Although retail sales  are not growing at the same rate they did over the last decade, it is still a good place to be.

Nontraditional businesses – the big opportunity is occupancy by tenants who fall outside the specific definition of retail, such as equipment repair, dry cleaning, beauty shops, nail services, pet care, etc…

Large purveyors – the top 100 retail chains are capturing an increasingly larger portion of total retail sales. That is because they are getting more efficient and doing better business because of it.

Gary’s next class is the CCIM class, “Market Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate,” to be held at the FLORIDA REALTORS headquarters in Orlando, Nov. 5 through 8, 2012.
